Willow Spiling is a traditional technique for stabilising and preventing erosion of riverbanks.
Freshly cut living willow stakes and rods provide a highly effective barrier for riverbank stabilisation. **For 2021-22 planting season we have sold out of stakes**
We can supply both the willow stakes and rods, as well as offering advice and services for local Spiling work.

Willow Spiling Design
The photos below show work currently being carried out on Hebble Brook through Halifax Golf Club, the work is being undertaken by Yorkshire Wildlife Trust as part of the Calder Greening Project. A 30m stretch of Spiling was completed last winter, and another 30m stretch planned for this autumn. The photos below show the before and after for the first stretch, from preparing the riverbank to the willow growing this summer.

We are currently working with Yorkshire Wildlife Trust on a second 30m spiling project in the Calder Valley.

We supply materials to Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority for spiling work.

Spiling Design
We can help with design of solution for supporting stream or river banks. If you send us photos of the site we will call you to discus best solution.
Spiling Materials
We offer a standard kit for repair of a typical 10m stretch of river bank with a fall of approximately 70-100cm. More often that not though a bespoke solution is required.
Willow Supply and Delivery
We will either use Tuffnells for small spiling orders or for large orders or local ones we will deliver ourselves.
